Rangeland Insurance is subsidized by the USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA). It primarily insures against drought, and covers grazingland and perennial hay production. The Rangeland programs are based on the Rainfall or Vegetative Index, depending on the state or region where the rangelands are located.

Rangeland gives ranchers additional cash flow to buy feed, lease pastureland, and even restock their herds once the drought ends. Similarly, it provides hay producers the funds needed to offset the cost of irrigation during dry growing seasons.
